Slutsky stated the need to support the war correspondents
LDPR chairman Leonid Slutsky said on Tuesday, December 7, that it was necessary to support war correspondents at the state level. He also announced the party's intention to provide assistance to the family of Izvestia correspondent Alexander Martemyanov, who was killed in a drone strike by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
"We will provide assistance to the family and friends of Sasha Martemyanov, although it will not compensate for this terrible loss for all of us. In the same car was Bella Liberman (Voenkor "Bloknot Donetsk" - Ed.), other guys were hurt. We will support everyone," the party chairman told reporters.
He added that he intends to hold a meeting with the war correspondents. Slutsky believes that these people play a key role in bringing truthful information about the special military operation to the public.
Izvestia correspondent Alexander Martemyanov was killed on January 4 when a Ukrainian army drone hit a car on the Donetsk-Gorlovka highway. He died of his wounds.
A criminal case was opened under Articles 105, 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Murder and attempted murder of two or more persons", "Intentional damage to property").
The head of the DNR Denis Pushilin noted that Martemyanov's materials about Donbass "were courageous and objective", the military correspondent also provided assistance to the residents of the republic. Viktor Petrenko, the chairman of the Russian Union of Journalists (RUJR) in the DNR, said that the deceased war correspondent should be buried in the Alley of Heroes in Donetsk.
Alexander Martemyanov worked as a correspondent for Izvestia since 2014. In 2023, he was wounded during shelling by the AFU in Donetsk, but returned to work after his recovery. Martemyanov was awarded the medal "For Bravery" and the insignia "For Merit to the Donetsk People's Republic" of the III degree.
