More than 300 cats and dogs serve in the Russian Emergencies Ministry units; there are also squirrels, fish and turtles. This was reported by the Russian Emergencies Ministry in its Telegram channel on January 7.

"Now more than 300 cats, dogs serve in the units of the Russian Emergencies Ministry. There are even squirrels, fish, turtles. They fulfill an important task - they give warmth and support, help rescuers and firefighters with their presence after heavy departures," the message reads.

It added that every day volunteers from the detachment "Semenychi" enter the service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation. It is reported that initially it was a cat detachment, but now other animals have started to appear in it.

"Semenychi" is the first feline squad of rescuers in the Russian Emergencies Ministry. It was created in May 2023 and named in memory of the Tyumen fire cat Semyon.

Earlier, on December 27, the cat Tolik from the squad "Semenychi" of the Moscow Emergency Situations Ministry was awarded the first special rank of warrant officer of the internal service. According to the department, the animal has become a faithful friend and mascot of firefighters during the years of service in the squad. Tolik the cat attends the daily round-up of sentries and escorts the workers to the field.
