Waves over 6 meters and hurricane winds are expected in four districts of the Sakhalin region. This was reported in the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the region on January 7.

"January 8 in the central part of the Sea of Okhotsk in the Okha, Nogliki, Smirnykhovsky and in the Poronaisky district is expected east, northeast wind 33-38 m / s (hurricane), the height of waves - 6 m and more," - stated in the Telegram-channel of the department.

The main department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation in the Sakhalin region recommended citizens not to go out to sea on small vessels and to stay at a safe distance from it.

The Emergencies Ministry also noted that the emergency warning and recommendations were sent to the administration of districts and the Sakhalin Fleet Surveillance Service.

Earlier, on December 8, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 was recorded in the Northern Kurils. It was specified that the origin of the earthquake was located in the Sea of Okhotsk at a depth of 291 km, 86 km northwest of the Kuril island of Matua.
