Russian universities will switch to a new education system from September 1, 2026. This was reported on January 7 by RIA Novosti with reference to the Ministry of Science and Education of the Russian Federation.

It is reported that by this date the agency will form and approve the necessary regulatory legal acts.

The Ministry of Education and Science also noted that students who study under the current educational programs, will be able to graduate under them without changes.

Earlier, on December 17, the head of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia Valery Falkov at the meeting "On the preliminary results of 2024 and plans for 2025" with the rectors of Russian universities said that 2025 will be devoted to the transition to a new model of higher education.

Before that, on December 5, it was reported that the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation approved a new procedure for admission to universities. It was specified that the priority admission to budgetary places for bachelor's and specialist courses should be completed no later than August 2-3, the main stage of admission - August 6-7, additional - August 10-11, and admission to paid places - September 30.
