Sobyanin told about the growing popularity of streetcars in Moscow
The streetcar is a convenient form of urban transportation for Muscovites: in 2024 more than 190 million trips were made on streetcars in the capital, which is almost 20% more than a year earlier. This was announced by Mayor Sergei Sobyanin in his Telegram channel.
According to him, the integration of streetcars into the rail framework of the city continues, "successfully complementing the existing metro, MCC and MCD lines".
According to the mayor, more than 15 km of streetcar tracks were renewed last year, which allowed to improve the smoothness of streetcars and reduce the noise level.
Sobyanin reminded that in September the line along Sergia Radonezhskogo Street was launched, there was also a new route No. 2, which runs from the 3rd Vladimirskaya Street to Kursk station. As a result, more than 700 thousand Moscow residents got convenient opportunities to travel around the city, the mayor added.
The restoration of streetcar tracks on Trifonovskaya Street - between Obraztsova Street and Rizhskaya Square - is also underway. "They will also make a new tramway section on Gilyarovsky Street - from Trifonovskaya Street to Riga Square. Streetcars should run on the new line already this year," Sobyanin said.
According to him, the streetcar fleet in Moscow has been almost completely renewed. In the coming years will buy another 100 new streetcars of the latest generation of domestic production, added the mayor.
In December, Sobyanin said that by the end of 2025 in Moscow will start running an unmanned streetcar. The mayor called its launch one of the key projects. The mayor also specified that the tests of the unmanned vehicle are already underway - the streetcar has traveled more than 2.4 thousand kilometers without violating traffic rules.
