Unknown persons beat up rower Kirill Lyapunov in the center of Moscow

Kirill Lyapunov, silver medalist of the European Rowing Championship, participant of the 2016 Olympic Games, was brutally beaten up in the center of Moscow. This was reported by a source of "Izvestia" on January 6.

It is specified that the incident occurred on Tverskoy Boulevard. The reason for the attack and the number of attackers are unknown. After the incident Lyapunov was hospitalized, at the moment the victim is at home.

"I, in general, I don't remember what especially was <...>. I was discharged from the hospital, I was released <...>, I will be observed by a doctor," the athlete told Izvestia.

According to the source, the athlete was diagnosed with a bruise of the eyeball and surrounding tissues, as well as hematomas in the eyelid area and a fracture of the right cheekbone.

Lyapunov has represented the Russian national team for 16 years and is a silver medalist at the European Championships. He is also a participant of the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Earlier, on August 3, 2024, several men beat up the Russian boxing champion Dmitry Dvali in Crimea. It is known that at first there was a dispute between the opponents.

On the fact of the incident, a criminal case was initiated. All nine participants of the mass brawl were identified and detained shortly after the incident.
