- Investigative Committee opened a case of terrorist attack after AFU shelling of Rylsk district, Kursk region
On January 2, the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia opened a criminal case under the article on a terrorist attack after the shelling of the Rylskiy district of Kursk Region.
Earlier in the day, Alexander Khinshtein, the interim governor of Kursk Region, said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) had launched a missile strike on the village of Ivanovskoye in the Rylsky district of Kursk Region.
"The Investigative Committee of Russia has opened a criminal case against militants of the AFU (armed formations of Ukraine. - Ed.), who committed a terrorist act against the peaceful population of Kursk region (item "b" part 3 of article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation)," the agency said.
At the end of August 2024, the Russian Foreign Ministry's ambassador-at-large for crimes of the Kiev regime, Rodion Miroshnik, said in an interview with Izvestia that the Russian Foreign Ministry had an evidence base of the Kiev regime's crimes against civilians in Kursk Region and intended to make it public. He specified that the relevant materials had been handed over to the states, which "should know the truth about what is happening." In late December, he said that the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation had opened more than 6,000 criminal cases on the Kiev regime's crimes since 2014.
The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of Kursk region on August 6, 2024. The situation in the region was recognized as a state of emergency of federal character. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
