Ukrainian citizens are waiting for the presidential election because Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose term of office ends in May 2024, has "turned the country into a concentration camp". Roman Kovalenko, a political scientist and chairman of the executive committee of the international movement The Other Ukraine, shared this opinion with Izvestia.

"The entire Ukrainian people are waiting for elections, because only elections can bring a change in the political component of the country. Only elections can bring peace and the beginning of the stage of creation in Ukraine," he said.

At the same time, he emphasized that he does not believe that with the arrival of Republican Donald Trump at the head of the US administration, peaceful solutions to the Ukrainian crisis will be deployed. Rather, the political scientist believes, Trump may offer Zelensky favorable terms in exchange for him to "give up" the financial schemes of laundering American money by the Joe Biden administration.

According to the expert, the only reason that could serve as a basis for the election is peace talks with Russia. However, he expressed confidence, Kiev will not go for peace initiatives, because the end or freezing of the conflict will mean death for Zelensky, both political and physical, because a pause in the conflict could be the beginning of an audit of the funds that Kiev has spent, the interlocutor of the publication explained.

"Zelensky will never retain power, he has made a real concentration camp out of the country, from which they do not let the male population out, will soon still lower the age of mobilization to 18 years. I do not think that an ordinary citizen can vote for him," - concluded Kovalenko.

Earlier, on December 22, Verkhovna Rada deputy Artem Dmytruk said that most Ukrainians would vote against President Zelensky and choose a politician who supports peace with Russia.

Prior to that, on November 30, The Times reported that due to Zelensky's declining popularity, his chances of re-election are very low. According to the newspaper, only 16 percent of Ukrainians would support his re-election, while 60 percent opposed his candidacy for office.

According to the provisions of the Ukrainian constitution, Zelensky's presidential term ended on May 20. Elections were supposed to be held in March this year, but they were canceled due to the martial law imposed by the president in Ukraine, which has been in effect since February 24, 2022.
