Christmas service at Christ the Savior Cathedral today, beginning at 23:00, live streaming:

The Christmas liturgy is traditionally the culmination of all Christmas services. The preparatory stage for the celebration, the so-called "pre-holiday" or "five days", begins at the beginning of the month and culminates with Christmas Eve.

But even after Christmas the solemn services continue until January 13, the Feast of the Nativity of Christ, on which falls the Old New Year. Even people who are far from church life during these days try to visit the temple and pray to the Lord. And church-going people try to take communion on the holiday.

Catholics celebrate Christmas two weeks earlier - December 25 on the Gregorian calendar. The Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) adheres to the Julian calendar and celebrates Christmas on January 7.

Earlier "Izvestia" wrote that in 2024, more than 1.4 million people took part in the celebration of Christmas in Russia.
