Every year on January 7, Orthodox believers celebrate one of the most important church holidays - the Nativity of Christ. On this day, the Church remembers the miraculous birth of the Son of God from the Virgin Mary. "Izvestia" prepared warm wishes, congratulations and poems for this bright celebration.

Merry Christmas: wishes in your own words

Christmas is an important holiday for both Orthodox Christians and Catholics and Protestants. In old Russian liturgical books it was called "Winter Easter", because the birth of Jesus Christ is directly connected with his subsequent Resurrection. On this day, believers gather around the table with their friends and relatives to share the joy of the bright celebration. Here's how to congratulate them:Фото: ТАСС/Донат Сорокин

"Congratulations on Christmas! On this bright holiday I wish you peace in your soul, harmony in your home, good health and God's grace. Let hardships bypass you and sorrows do not darken your days. God bless you and your whole family!"

"Merry Christmas! I wish you always feel the love and support of loved ones, be in harmony with yourself and the world around you, do not lose optimism and look forward to the future with hope. May the Star of Bethlehem illuminate your path and your guardian angel protect you from troubles!"Фото: ТАСС/Владимир Смирнов

"On this wonderful holiday, may your home be filled with joyful laughter, love and comfort! May faith inspire your hearts and goodness warm your soul. Let thoughts remain pure, and words and deeds - honest. May children grow up healthy and virtuous. Merry Christmas!"

"My dear ones! I congratulate you on the bright holiday of Christmas! May your heart be as light as a feather and your soul as bright as a star. I wish you fulfillment of wishes, good health, true love, faithful friends and a peaceful sky!"Фото: ТАСС/Евгений Гладин

Congratulations in prose on Orthodox Christmas

The Russian Orthodox Church celebrates Christmas on January 7. Divine services begin the evening before the celebration and last until late at night. People spend the day with their families: they organize feasts, give gifts to children, and visit relatives. Some also exchange cards with pictures of angels, decorated fir trees, and the creche (cave) where Jesus was born. The cards are accompanied by short greetings:Фото: ИЗВЕСТИЯ/Дмитрий Коротаев

"Merry Christmas! May your life be filled with more bright miracles, warm memories and joyful events. I wish you good health, peace of mind, family welfare and prosperity!"

"Merry Christmas! May the light of the Star of Bethlehem dispel doubts and illuminate life with grace. May every day bring a new reason for joy, hopes come true, and faith in the best does not run out. Short poems to say Merry Christmas on January 7

"Happy New Year, Merry Christmas!
Let happiness come to your home!
May all your dreams come true in the glow of a candle
May all your dreams come true!

I wish you strong faith,
Joy and love without measure!
May your soul be warm
Against all odds!"Фото: РИА Новости/Павел Бедняков

"On this holy day of Christmas
"I hasten to congratulate from my heart
To all those who are at home
I'll let in the door without hesitation.

"May the star of Bethlehem shine
In the fathomless silence of the sky,
"May it be a poem
about the happiness of the immortal soul."

"Merry Christmas!
Long, long, long years!
May it bring happiness
The light of grace!

May love, the queen
May love rule the house
And in the soul sparkles
A fractal of joy!"
