The application of artificial intelligence (AI) will lead to a revolution in some spheres: such changes are coming in engineering, design, construction of new components and entire devices. Vladimir Putin said this at the AI Journey international conference on December 11. Today, the level of AI implementation in priority areas of the economy is 31.5%. At the same time, Russia should become a leader not only in the creation, but also in the scale of application of artificial intelligence in all spheres of life. What they talk about at the AI Journey conference
In Moscow on December 11 started the international conference "Sber" AI Journey - "Journey into the world of artificial intelligence". Over the course of three days, AI developers and IT specialists from Russia, China, UAE, India, Ethiopia, Bahrain, Brazil and Indonesia will share their knowledge, experience and opinions at the SberCity Bank headquarters. In total - more than 200 experts. The event has become an annual event, and in 2024 the main theme of AI Journey is the possibility of using artificial intelligence as a human assistant in all spheres of life.
On the opening day, the venue was, as they call it, jam-packed. Participants from different countries lined up to test Sber's projects created using new technologies. The organizers clearly presented the introduction of AI into various spheres of life: several floors of SberCity hosted stands with the company's products, among the main ones was the Russian-language neural network GigaChat. One of the most popular projects that caused a stir among the participants was GigaDoc, which uses photos to determine the condition of the body. It shows body mass index, identifies diabetes risks, assesses stress levels, and measures blood pressure.

Other stands offered to use AI to create their own 3D models, make up music, and choose the most suitable book for a particular personality by analyzing just 10 answers to user questions, for example, "What would you do if you saw a beautiful bird outside the window?" or "What costume would you wear to a party?". The tech giant also presented new AI capabilities in sports: to analyze a match and evaluate mistakes made, as well as give hints. Expectedly, separate programs for business with automatic analysis of available risks and the most favorable conditions were presented.
The exhibition was also visited by Vladimir Putin, who has been attending the conference for a number of years. The head of state was shown smart technologies, in particular the stands "GigaChat and smart devices", "Autonomous tractor L5", "3D modeling and Kandinsky2", "Artificial intelligence in education" and "GigaChat. Results of the Year with the President." Apparently, Vladimir Putin was particularly interested in the last product, since the direct line is coming on December 19. Moreover, this is the first time such an innovation has been used at this event.

A company representative told the head of state that GigaChat has greatly accelerated the processing of requests because they "come in millions": it does in seconds what used to take months after the program itself.
- It's clear what questions to prepare for. What are most of them: quality and availability of housing, transport infrastructure, medicine, government agencies and organizations, benefits, - listed the head of state, looking at the graphs. - This is important, and not only my work is facilitated. Such opportunities help to respond to people's requests, to understand where the state should focus its attention.
For his part, German Gref, head of Sber, who accompanied Vladimir Putin, admitted that the presidential administration suggested using this technology in preparation for the direct line. Speaking at the plenary session of the conference, the head of state noted that agencies have already begun to respond to citizens' questions.
Who will not be replaced by robots
The introduction of artificial intelligence technologies means a coming revolution in some spheres, the president said. In the past year alone, AI has changed the face of entire industries. Putin cited the example of creative industries, "where, it would seem, a person with his sense of harmony and beauty was absolutely irreplaceable." The president predicts the coming revolution in engineering, in the design and construction of fundamentally new components, as AI now understands and analyzes hard-to-read images and videos, despite weather conditions and other interferences. This promises qualitatively different opportunities for robotics and the creation of unmanned vehicles on land, in water and in the air.
Engineering "will last another two years", and those who know how to correctly set tasks for neural networks will remain in the industry - 10-15% of the most qualified will stay in their places, according to economist Valery Korneev.
- But there is no bad without good. All the freed people will be able to retrain using the same neural networks in three to six months and go to work at enterprises that are now being built en masse, but are still poorly staffed, their deficit is estimated at 3-6 million people. This will be the released office class and the former creative class. And the salaries of those who have been retrained will also go up twice as much. Everything is for the better. We should not despair, we should retrain," he told Izvestia.
Today, domestic companies are quickly adopting all these innovations and achievements in their work, the president said. According to him, the restrictions imposed on the Russian Federation and its economy push us to find new solutions. Now the level of AI implementation in priority areas of the economy is 31.5%, said Artem Sheikin, deputy chairman of the Council for the development of the digital economy at the Federation Council. At the same time, Vladimir Putin in his speech even allowed the possibility of the emergence of "strong artificial intelligence".
- Strong AI (AGI) refers to systems that have general cognitive abilities. These systems are capable of understanding, learning, and applying knowledge across a wide range of tasks, much like a human being. AGI has the ability to self-learn and adapt to new situations without the need for additional programming," Artem Sheikin told Izvestia.
Among the professions that can be displaced by AI, the parliamentarian referred to customer service employees working with a large number of similar requests, bank employees performing routine operations, specialists in the field of analytics and research, as well as copywriters. Vladimir Putin, by the way, noted that AI will never, for example, replace teachers. According to him, AI allows teachers to save about 20% of their working time. Obviously, we are talking about less paperwork, as well as more involvement in communication with students.
- Artificial intelligence technologies are intended to become the most important resource for achieving national development goals, to ensure the strengthening of the country's defense capability, qualitative development of the economy and social sectors, public administration, and the growth of innovations. And to successfully solve these tasks, Russia must become a world leader not only in the creation, but also in the scale of application, penetration of artificial intelligence in all spheres of our life without exception, - said Vladimir Putin.
Among such examples he named the amazing results of AI application in the fight against crime in Moscow: burglaries have been reduced almost 35 times, and the number of robberies - 10.5 times.
Separately, the head of state announced the regions that became winners of the National Award in the field of artificial intelligence: Moscow, Moscow, Lipetsk, Tula and Tyumen regions. He also congratulated the winners of the All-Russian Olympiad of schoolchildren on artificial intelligence (AI).
Cooperation between countries in the field of AI
Guests from other countries were among the participants at the plenary session. In particular, Aisha Bin Bishr, who was responsible for the implementation of Dubai's smart transformation, President of the Shanghai AI Research Institute Sun Haitao and Digital Development Policy Manager from India Aakash Guglani. These countries pay serious attention to the development of AI.
According to Vladimir Putin, the Russian Federation is ready to provide countries of the Global South and East with the advisory and technical assistance necessary for the development of artificial intelligence. Separately, he suggested holding in Russia an "international foresight" - a strategic session on the future of AI. The President invited scientists from all over the world to work together.
- This will make it possible to respond to emerging challenges and risks in a timely manner, to use non-standard solutions and opportunities, to outline new directions of scientific breakthrough and partnership," he said.

In addition, Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of the BRICS alliance on the development of artificial intelligence. On the platform of the conference, the head of RDIF Kirill Dmitriev said that more than 20 companies from six countries of the association joined the alliance at the first stage: Russia, Brazil, India, China, Iran, UAE. Its activities will be focused on the development of digital technologies in the public and commercial sectors.
- The BRICS+AI Alliance is the largest international initiative of RDIF and Russian business in the technology sector in recent years. "The development of artificial intelligence opens up additional opportunities for cooperation between the BRICS countries, a significant increase in the scale and quality of technological partnership," he told Izvestia.
More than 40 more companies are expected to join the alliance in the coming months, including major corporations, universities, technological, infrastructural and medical structures.
