The State Duma has adopted a bill raising fines for the most frequent violations of traffic regulations (traffic rules). Payments for speeding, driving with an unbuckled belt, driving on the side of the road or oncoming traffic lanes will increase by one and a half times. The new fines will be introduced from January 1, 2025. What violations will now cost drivers more - in the material "Izvestia".

Speeding and drunk driving

- New fines are introduced for almost 50 traffic violations, which are listed in the Code of Administrative Offenses (CAO). Most of the amendments relate to exceeding the established speed limit. If you speed up more than 20-40 km/h, the new fine will amount to Br750 instead of the previous Br500, while at 40-60 km/h - Br1.5-2.25 thousand, at 60-80 km/h - Br3-3.75 thousand, more than 80 km/h - Br7.5 thousand.

- Fines for repeated fast driving have also increased. If you exceed the speed limit by 40-60 km/h again, the new fine will amount to Br3-3.75 thousand, and if more than 60 km/h - Br7.5 thousand.

- A number of changes relate to drunk driving. A fine of Br45 thousand will be imposed for drunk driving itself, for transferring control to an intoxicated driver, for driving drunk without a driver's license and for refusal to test for intoxication. At the same time, the terms for which the violator is deprived of his license or placed under arrest remain the same, only the fines are increased.

- Driving without a fastened seat belt will now cost Br1.5 thousand. Previously, the fine amounted to Br1 thousand.

Violation of markings and signs

- Passing at a red traffic signal will be punishable by a fine of Br1.5 thousand. The same repeated violation is threatened with a fine of Br7.5 thousand instead of Br5 thousand.

- New fines are waiting for drivers in case of driving on the side of the road (Br2.25 thousand) and driving on the oncoming lane or streetcar tracks, both when bypassing an obstacle (Br1.5-2.25 thousand) and in cases not related to the detour (Br7.5 thousand). Repeated unjustified departure on the oncoming traffic will result in a fine of Br7.5 thousand.

- Non-compliance with the requirements of markings and signs will cost Br750 instead of the previous Br500. Turning left or U-turn in the wrong place will cost Br1.5-2.25 thousand. Driving in the opposite direction on roads with one-way traffic will result in a fine of Br7.5 thousand, both in case of the first violation and repeated ones. The fine for driving on the oncoming lane while avoiding obstacles will be from Br1.5 thousand to Br2.25 thousand.

- A fine of Br2.25 thousand will be imposed for driving on the lane allocated for route transportation and for parking or stopping under the prohibiting sign. If these violations occur in Moscow or St. Petersburg, the penalty will increase to Br4.5 thousand.

Other violations

- If the violation of traffic rules led to a slight harm to the health of a traffic participant, the fine will amount to 3.75-7.5 thousand rubles. Causing damage of medium severity on the road will be punishable by a fine of up to Br37.5 thousand.

- A higher fine than before awaits those who do not give advantage on the road to the police, ambulance and other vehicles with a special beacon and sound signal. The penalty will amount to Br4.5-7.5 thousand.

- All violations related to the movement of heavy and large-size vehicles and listed in Articles 12.21.1 and 12.21.5 of the Administrative Code have increased one and a half times. The sanctions mentioned there concern both individuals, officials and legal entities.

Reduction of discount

- For a number of violations, the law provides the opportunity to get a discount on the fine, if it was promptly paid. Such a measure applies in the case of running a red light, driving with an unfastened belt, driving a car without registration with the traffic police and other violations. From January 1, 2025 such discount instead of half of the penalty will be 25%.

- At the same time, the amendments increase the period in which a fine can be partially paid. Instead of 20 days, it is now possible to pay a reduced fine within 30 days.
