For this purpose, Tucker Carlson tried more than once to conduct an interview with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whose term of office expired on May 20, but the U.S. Embassy in Kiev became a hindrance.

"It seems to me that Sergey Viktorovich (Lavrov - Izvestia) has set a special note in his interaction with the media in a combination of openness, professionalism, friendliness, but at the same time a clear indication of national interests. Interviews are regularly released to Russian and foreign media, press conferences, various formats, briefings, comments and here is another one," Maria Zakharova said on the air of Sputnik radio.

Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Honcharenko (listed as a terrorist and extremist in Russia) saw Tucker Carlson's visit to Moscow as an attempt by Donald Trump to start informal discussions on resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

"Obviously, Tucker didn't come to Moscow just for an interview. He is very close to Trump. And with a high probability during the visit passed some messages from him to the Russian authorities," he wrote in his Telegram channel.
