The bear stepped on: "Paddington 3" topped the box office in Russia
The family comedy "The Adventures of Paddington 3" was the best release of the weekend of November 28 - December 1, earning 243 million rubles. In second place with a big lag - the comedy "One Day in Istanbul", the movie "Quartet I", brought in its box office only 86.3 million rubles. In the top three is still retromelodrama "Love of the Soviet Union", which increased its collections by 50 million rubles. Along with family and comedy content in the top of the box office are still psychological thrillers and horror films: "Conclave", "Heretic", "Carrier of Souls". But the second highest-grossing foreign release of the year in Russia - "Substance" - after 2.5 months left the top 12 EAIS. "Izvestia" summarizes the results of domestic film distribution over the past weekend.
Paddington conquers Russians again
The best release of last weekend was the third part of the family franchise "The Adventures of Paddington". The movie changed the director (Dougal Wilson replaced Paul King in the director's chair), but did not lose audience expectations. And although some critics call the adventures of Paddington Bear in Peru the weakest part of the franchise, the new film earned 243 million rubles last weekend, which is more than the combined figures of the first and second parts in their opening weekends. At the global box office, Bear has weighty competitors in the form of "Gladiator 2" and the musical "Wicked" with Ariana Grande. In Russia, the third part shows the best attendance, the average session of "The Adventures of Paddington 3" is attended by 24 people.
-"Paddington 3" is a beautiful, luminous and definitely a long-awaited story for moviegoers of all ages. It will undoubtedly surpass the success of the first two parts, each of which collected more than 350 million. The first part of the franchise in its opening weekend earned 147 million, the second - 77 million. The potential of this part is much higher. Having started with 242 million, the half billion mark it will overcome with ease. In this segment, the bear has no comparable competitors," says Olga Zinyakova, president of the KARO movie theater chain.
"One Day in Istanbul" vs. "Love of the Soviet Union"
Second place at the Russian comedy "One Day in Istanbul" - a film adaptation of the play "One Day in the Death of Vadik Belyaev" from "Quartet I", which became the best domestic novelty of the week. For the first weekend tape earned only 86.3 million rubles. The previous project "Quartet I" - comedy "What Men Talk About. Simple pleasures" - in its opening weekend collected 132.8 million rubles. "One Day in Istanbul" cannot boast of a high occupancy rate: an average of 12 people per session. President of KARO notes that the acting quartet is still loved by the audience, but the alternative title is more difficult to read by the audience.
- Plus it's not the most universal and hits exactly in the audience of female fans of Turkish TV series. Yes, favorite actors on the screens, but this is a new story with new characters. Part of the audience from the project took away another comedy, "Son-in-law", continues to work "Love of the Soviet Union". But the project has a good build-up, on Sarafan has the opportunity to break into the next weekend with a minimum loss at the box office, - believes Olga Zinyakova.
"Love of the Soviet Union" still confidently holds in the top three domestic releases. On its fourth week at the box office, the picture increased the box office by 50 million rubles, the total collections are 524 million. The picture has a decent 21 people per session. Last week's leader, children's comedy "Manyunya: Adventures in the Village", on the second weekend fell to the fourth line, earning 38.3 million rubles. At the same time, the total box office of the new "Manyunya" has already exceeded 300 million rubles, and clearly the collections will continue to grow until the start of the New Year battle with blockbuster films.
Thrillers are still in the top
After 2.5 months, the rating of domestic box office left "Substance" Coralie Farge. The main body horror of 2024 and one of the highest-grossing foreign novelties have already brought on streaming. In the top of EAIS "Substance" gave way to the psychological thriller "Heretic" (21.7 million rubles for the weekend and sixth place), the horror "Carrier of Souls" with Nick Frost (11.7 million rubles and ninth place) and a dark political thriller about church elections "Conclave" with Rafe Fiennes (10.8 million rubles and tenth line). Despite the fact that the film is praised by the world and Russian press, and Fiennes already predicted nomination for "Oscar", "Conclave" watched average, the tape is at risk of flying out of the top EAIS next week.
- In the first weekend, the film was in sixth place, but by the second weekend did not withstand the competition with "Heretic" and "Carrier of Souls". And against the background of marketing neighbors was difficult to claim a qualitative leap after the first weekend - commented the head of KARO the results of "Conclave".
Below expectations started in the Russian box office and biopic "Mary" - 10.3 million rubles and 11th line in the ranking. Do not really help the new movie Pablo Larraín Angelina Jolie and the figure of opera diva Maria Callas, which she played. That said, Larraín's trilogy "Jackie" - "Spencer". - "Maria" about the difficult fates of prominent women of the XX century biopic about Callas showed a good initial result. The best picture remains "Jackie": the movie about the widow of American President John F. Kennedy earned in Russia in the debut weekend 14.9 million rubles.
It should be noted that the short films have not gone anywhere from the rating, along with which in the format of pre-screening service are "Gladiator 2" and "Wicked". In the near future, judging by the schedules of cinemas, in the Russian box office will appear "Moana 2" and "Mission Red" with Chris Evans and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. However, unlike the summer season in December, unofficial Hollywood with the lack of a promotional campaign will not be as competitive, as Russian distributors will start releasing their major blockbusters by the highest box office time of the year.
