- Manyunya was disbanded: the family comedy remained at the top of the Russian box office
In its second weekend, "Manyunya: Adventures in the Village" beat everyone, including novelties. The box office of the release amounted to 92 million rubles. In second place is the melodrama "Love of the Soviet Union" - 88 million. And the most promising novelty of the weekend, the comedy "Son-in-law", was only in third place with 86 million, and its earnings per session is much lower than the nearest competitors. The highest earnings at the top of the Russian box office is the short film "Through Moscow". The box office of the horror "Heretic" with Hugh Grant should be recognized as a serious success.
"Son-in-law": a confident start or failure?
Comedy "Son-in-law" was supposed to be the hottest novelty of the weekend, but it seems that viewers are confused by the releases with the participation of Dmitry Nagiyev. Almost consecutively released "New Year in Berezovka" (November 7), "Son-in-law", the series "Who is faster?" (November 25), "Daddy to Mommy wrap up" (December 5). December 19 starts "Christmas Trees 11", and in the work is also "12 Chairs", where Nagyev has the role of Ostap Bender. And there, as in "Son-in-law", with him plays Irina Pegova. At the same time, "New Year in Berezovka" was very modest, its entire box office is 25 million rubles, and for this weekend he collected only 1.4 million. It is clear that when releases are so piled up, they begin to interfere with each other.
That's what happened with "Son-in-law." It had more than 20,000 screenings, which is about a quarter of all the screenings in Russian cinemas over the weekend. It turned out to be too much, so many viewers did not show up. As a result, of course, "Son-in-law" has a "bronze" in the top with 86 million rubles, but "Manyunya" has one and a half times more per session, and the melodrama "Love of the Soviet Union" - twice as much. And not to go far, the short film "Through Moscow" (followed most often by "Venom: The Last Dance") - four times higher, without advertising and promo.
- "Son-in-law" showed a confident start, positioned in third place in the top with a minimal gap from the first line - notes at the same time the President of the network of cinemas "Karo" Olga Zinyakova. - The new comedy with Dmitry Nagiyev overtook the fantasy "Ognivo", but yielded to the release of "Love of the Soviet Union", which goes on a good sarafan and takes away part of the audience. In terms of audience volume, the comedy is barely inferior to the leaders, which also demonstrates the interest of the audience.
It's worth noting that "Son-in-law" - if it stays in the shadow of the other movies - will indeed be pitiful. The movie is like an unspoken competition in acting and comic craft between Dmitry Nagiyev and Yan Tsapnik. You can see that each of them wholeheartedly enjoys the opportunity to play in the same frame with a strong and charismatic partner. Both artists are strong, smart, intelligent, with experience in drama, which immediately adds "Son-in-law" points with professionals, but, as it turns out, not all visitors to cinemas.
"Manyunya" is the top in terms of collections
"Manyunya" continues to rule the Russian box office for the second weekend in a row. Last time it collected 139 million rubles, this time - 92 million. Its total box office exceeded a quarter of a billion. At the same time, the last film version of the franchise, "Manyunya: Adventures in Moscow", came out less than six months ago and stopped at 289 million. It is clear that the "village" release of this milestone will overcome the results of the next weekend. All of this makes "Manyunya" an ideal example of new Russian family content entering the movie theater market.
- Any recognizable brand today has potential in full-length cinema," comments Olga Zinyakova. - Brands and characters aimed at a family audience are particularly successful. For example, already on December 5 a full-length movie based on the cartoon "Masha and the Bear" will appear on the screens. One of the most popular children's series can shoot at the box office and achieve success comparable to "Luntik". And the undoubted hit of the Russian box office promises to become for the third time such a literary character as Paddington Bear. He has every chance to improve the box office result of the first two films, we expect at least 0.5 billion rubles.
"Paddington" will be released already this week and will be a serious competition to any, not only domestic, family releases. Including will have to go to a well-deserved rest "Ognivu", which still holds in the top five leaders. In the piggy bank of the movie is already more than a billion rubles, so its fourth place this time should not embarrass anyone. It's just another 50 million in an already voluminous purse.
But very confidently feels "Love of the Soviet Union". The melodrama is in second place in terms of collections, but this weekend it was given as many sessions as needed, and as a result, it has the highest earnings for all three weekends, 8.2 thousand rubles. For comparison, in the premiere weekend she had less than 6 thousand, and in the second - less than 7 thousand. Now the picture is quite decent 20 people at the session, and the fall from weekend to weekend in its collections is low, as well as other headliners rental. In the old days, a drop of 2-3 times was considered normal, because the competition was higher. Now it is more often about 1.5 times.
- This is the trend of the last two years: there is less quality content, successful releases now work for a long time, - says Olga Zinyakova. - The more good releases in the clip, the more they collect together - so it is possible to fuel the constant interest in the movie poster in the audience. And the long distance of rental helps not to miss an interesting novelty.
Finally, we note that the horror with Hugh Grant "Heretic", which ended the weekend in fifth place with 34 million rubles, has collected a total of almost 150 million, which for this genre in Russia is a serious success. The picture's earnings are no worse than those of more promoted releases, and the drop by the second weekend is also less than half.
