Ballet for a tutu: to see "The Nutcracker" in Moscow costs from 800 to 85 thousand rubles.
The country's main "Nutcracker" - at the Bolshoi Theater - has not yet been announced, and ticket prices are unknown. The ballet has not yet appeared in the GABT repertoire. But in other theaters, almost all seats for this fairy tale are sold out. On the wave of commercial success of the title, the prices for New Year's performances grow year by year. The second theater after the GABT, the MAMT (Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theater) has already raised the price for a seat in the parterre from 15 thousand to 25 thousand rubles. The number of "Nutcrackers" in the capital's playbill is also increasing - from ballets to ice shows, and their cost varies from 800 to 85 thousand rubles. "Izvestia" dealt with what performances are available to the audience.
Don't push it
A year ago on November 18, the first tickets for the cherished New Year's Eve production were already being sold at the GABT box office. Now there is no information about when and at what price sales will begin. Since 1966 the ballet "The Nutcracker" staged by People's Artist of the USSR Yuri Grigorovich has been staged on the main stage of the country. Going to see this fairy tale has always been expensive. The fight against speculators only led to a rise in the price of tickets at the theater box office. And to buy them at face value, the audience stood for days in queues, which they themselves organized and tried to control. At first they wrote down in a notebook. And on the day of the start of sales, they lined up in front of the box office and, after a roll call, formed a queue. Starting at 23:00 representatives of the theater management came out to the people and under the supervision of uniformed employees in accordance with the number in the notebook put a bracelet with a number on their arm. By it the next day a lucky person could buy two tickets to "The Nutcracker" - with passports. Their price ranged from 2 thousand to 20 thousand rubles. "Izvestia" together with other fans of the ballet passed this three-day quest.
It happened that the queue was broken by tough guys-speculators, pushing organized theatergoers back. Fights also happened. Those who defended the "Nutcracker" are still united in communities in social networks. And, judging by the situation with rising prices for performances of the Bolshoi Theater, many of them no longer hope to get to their favorite ballet.
- We have a whole series of "Nutcrackers" ahead of us," assured Valery Gergiev, General Director of the Bolshoi Theater . - Together with the Ministry of Culture and the Moscow City Hall we want to make meetings with the brightest performance possible for a large number of people. These issues are now being discussed. Let's hope for a festive December and the first half of January. "Nutcrackers" will be offered to our audience quite a lot.
Sources in the theater told Izvestia that the prices for the New Year's fairy tale at the Bolshoi will be no less than for "Swan Lake". Now it is the most expensive ballet from the GABT playbill. To get into the parterre costs 40 thousand rubles. Although back in February the performance could be seen for 20 thousand rubles. "Nutcracker" has always been more expensive. Preliminary, the most expensive ticket will cost Br50 thousand, shared the source.
The price increase should have thwarted the onslaught of speculators. This year indeed tickets for "Swan Lake" could be fished out on the theater's website. But the increase in cost changed the audience.
At the same time, the number of concessionaires at the GABT has increased. The youth program 14-22, Pushkin Card holders and 60+ audience members were joined by combat veterans. Since October 1, 2024 the Bolshoi has introduced a rule: all tickets become registered, they are sold only with passports. This is another stage in the fight against resellers.
"Izvestia" sent a request to the press service of the Bolshoi Theater about the current ticket prices for "The Nutcracker" in 2024.
Like Big Brother
On the way of fighting speculators by raising prices went and MAMT, where tickets for "The Nutcracker" in the choreography of Yuri Posokhov sold from October 22. The site was light already at the start of sales, and the cost shocked former theatergoers. For a seat on the gallery with a limited view of the stage - 3 thousand rubles. The last row of the mezzanine - 8 thousand rubles, and the best seats in the parterre - 25 thousand rubles: a year ago on this New Year's fairy tale in the Bolshoi you could go for less. In 2023 "The Nutcracker" at the MAMT was sold in the range from 3.5 thousand to 15 thousand rubles.
As reported to "Izvestia" in the press service of the theater, pricing is also dictated by the consolidated position of the theatrical community to combat resellers. They also noted that the MAMT adopted a regulation on the sale of tickets at preferential prices, which applies to all performances in the repertoire, including the most box-office. Only premiere shows are an exception.
Ballet shows in the theater's playbill are daily from December 21 to January 4. Tickets at some point were almost all bought out. But due to the excitement, the directorate has added a few daytime shows. And the audience has the opportunity to choose from seven hundred seats.
- The ballet "The Nutcracker" belongs to the performances of high demand, and the prices for it are indeed higher than for the majority of MAMT productions, - added in the press service. - Nevertheless, the theater strives to maintain the availability of tickets even for such hits and offers different categories of prices. This can be seen in the first days after the opening of sales.
To the Kremlin Palace
The December performances of "The Nutcracker" by the Kremlin Ballet Theater staged by People's Artist of Russia Andrei Petrov are almost sold out. By the way, the fairy-tale production can be seen here in the summer, without a frenzy.
- The State Kremlin Palace always adheres to the position that a holiday should be for everyone," Konstantin Yaroshevsky, Deputy Director General of the State Kremlin Palace, told Izvestia. - Accordingly, we try to keep ticket prices as affordable as possible for different categories of spectators.
For "The Nutcracker" from the theater "Kremlin Ballet" tickets cost from 1 thousand to 7 thousand rubles. These are the most democratic prices for ballet. But they have also increased. Last year, the New Year's fairy tale cost from Br800 to Br5 thousand.
Holiday theatrical performance "The Nutcracker" can be found in the poster of the State Concert Hall for December-January.
- Before the performance, the audience is waiting for a bright, cheerful interactive action with circus artists, animators, stilt walkers, - said Konstantin Yaroshevsky.- For young guests will be held quizzes, entertaining and cognitive quest, contests and much more. At the end of the holiday the children will receive gifts in the form of a Nutcracker doll with sweets inside.
The culmination of the holiday will be a one-act ballet "The Nutcracker" by Tchaikovsky choreographed by People's Artist of Russia Andris Liepa. Especially for this production, the stage of the Small Hall was increased in length by 4 meters and equipped with five multimedia screens to create a fantastic multidimensional space.
- This is a really great idea, because such a compact version will be understandable and interesting even for the youngest audience members. Besides, this is not an experiment for me, I have already thought of something similar for people who want to see a choreographic action that goes beyond the usual theater," Andris Liepa told Izvestia.
Tickets for the theatricalized Christmas tree performance in the State Concert Hall cost from 1 thousand to 5 thousand rubles.
Tsiskaridze and children
Last week the Kremlin Palace playbill was replenished with the third "Nutcracker". Nikolai Tsiskaridze will bring to Moscow a performance created by students of the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet. Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet. Since the premiere of Pyotr Tchaikovsky's ballet at the Mariinsky Theatre on December 6, 1892, the roles of children, soldiers, puppets and guests have been performed by students of the Imperial Theater School, now the Academy of Russian Ballet. Tsiskaridze continued the tradition and also entrusted the central roles to senior students. Now the Vaganov dancers are dancing "The Nutcracker" in Vasily Vainonen's 1934 choreography.
To get to Tsiskaridze's "Nutcracker" is also good luck. Since the academy rents a venue in the GKD, it can set ticket prices at its discretion. Ballet performed by children is three times more expensive than professional performances by the Kremlin Ballet Company. The parterre, which is almost all sold out, costs 25 thousand rubles. The last rows of the balcony - Br3 thousand. Last year the price started at 1.5 thousand rubles for the cheapest ticket. During the week of sales on the website of the State Concert Hall, only 20 percent of the six thousand seats are available. As Nikolai Tsiskaridze admitted in an interview with Izvestia, the academy can make money on ticket sales. The money will go to extra-budgetary needs.
Prices for Tsiskaridze's "Nutcracker" are comparable to tickets to the Bolshoi Theater.
