- Media reported that UEFA recognized the referee's decision in the Euro quarterfinals as erroneous
Judicial Committee of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) recognized the erroneous decision not to appoint a penalty in the gate of the national team of Spain in the quarterfinals of the European championship-2024 against the national team of Germany. This was reported on Monday, September 23, the Spanish edition of Relevo, referring to the allegedly official document to which he had access.
The Spanish national team then beat the hosts of the tournament Germans with a score of 2:1 in extra time. At the end of the match, the ball hit Spanish defender Mark Cucurelier in the penalty area after a shot by Germany midfielder Jamal Musiala. English referee Anthony Taylor decided not to award a standard position.
According to the publication, the mistake was made by both Taylor and the VAR referee (assistant referee assistant using video referee technology), who did not intervene in the episode. The moment was reportedly included by the refereeing committee in the episode review to clarify the rules to the referees.
"In this case, the defense player stops a shot on goal with a hand that is not very close to the body, making the body area larger, so a penalty should have been awarded," the publication reported.
On July 14, the Spanish national team defeated the national team of England in the final match of the European Football Championship with a score of 2:1.
Footballers of the Spanish team then set a record of European championships on the goals scored in one tournament of the match. In total at Euro 2024 they scored 15 goals, thus overtaking the French national team, which in 1984 in the championship scored 14 goals.
