The SF pointed out the fickleness of Macron's statements on Russia
French President Emmanuel Macron can change his opinion on the Ukrainian crisis six times in a day depending on his mood, environment and other factors. Andrei Klimov, deputy chairman of the Federation Council's committee for international affairs, pointed this out in a conversation with Izvestiya on 22 September.
The day before, the French leader said that the European Union (EU) would need to think about reorganizing Europe and rethink ties with Russia in the context of peace on the continent. He added that the countries of Europe and the world should focus on "building a new world order."
"Macron changes his point of view six times a day. Six times is the maximum I counted. Somehow it happens less often, but he definitely changes his point of view at least twice during the day. It depends on where he is, what his mood is, who he has just talked to, who he is going to talk to. He is a very mobile fellow, a weather vane, living on the political draught," Klimov commented.
According to him, if you listen to Macron's statements five or six hours apart, you will notice that they contradict each other. The politician also expressed confidence that all statements of the French President are coordinated with the United States, he says and does exactly what he is allowed by Washington.
In addition, the senator recalled that it was Russia that tried to maintain partnership with the EU countries. Klimov said that he devoted 15 years of his life to this topic, including working in the Russia-EU Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, but he regrets the time spent because Brussels deceived Moscow.
"I am sorry for this time, sorry. We sincerely tried to make Europe remain a continent of peace, a continent of cooperation. We offered partnership, we were ready to do a lot for that. But we were, literarily speaking, deceived. I can testify to that," said the interlocutor of the publication.
At the same time, he said that he is sure that Russia will maintain normal relations with some European countries, for example, with Hungary, Serbia and Slovakia. In addition, under certain conditions, Germany and Italy could become such countries, the politician believes.
Last December, Macron already declared his readiness to resume bilateral dialog with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He pointed out that their contacts with Putin continued for some time after the conflict in Ukraine began in February 2022.
The last telephone conversation between the presidents of Russia and France to date took place on September 11, 2022 at the initiative of Paris. At that time, Putin and Macron discussed the situation around Ukraine, including the safety of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant and a food deal.
The special operation to protect Donbass, which the Russian leader announced on February 24, 2022, is still ongoing. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
