Happy Navy Day 2025: beautiful postcards and pictures happy July 27th

The Russian Navy has a rich history. The date of its foundation is October 30, 1696. On this day, the Boyar Duma, fulfilling the will of Peter the Great, decided: "There should be naval vessels." At the same time, active construction of ships began, and in the same year the first military vessels took part in the capture of the Turkish fortress of Azov, which stood on Russia's route to the Black Sea.

The Russian navy gained real military glory during the Northern War. In 1714, the Battle of Gangut took place, in which the Russian sailors won a crushing victory. A large-scale parade of warships was held in honor of this event, and Peter the Great ordered an annual holiday to be established in memory of him. This is how the first Navy Day in the country's history appeared, but it was not celebrated for long.

In the following years, Russia became one of the strongest maritime powers along with Great Britain, Spain and France. The Navy has become an integral part of the country's military might and a guarantor of maritime security. However, the official holiday for sailors and officers appeared only in 1939. Admiral Nikolai Kuznetsov suggested celebrating it, believing that the celebration would enhance the prestige of the naval service.РИА Новости

The Soviet leadership approved this initiative and soon declared July 24 as Navy Day. According to legend, the date was chosen personally by the Supreme Commander of the USSR, Joseph Stalin. It is believed that in this way he decided to pay tribute to Kuznetsov's services to the country, as his birthday fell on July 24.

In 1980, the celebration was shifted to the last Sunday of July, and in 2006 this date was officially fixed as a holiday of the Russian Navy.ИЗВЕСТИЯ/Александр Полегенько

Navy Day is celebrated in all regions of Russia, but it is held on the largest scale in major port cities: St. Petersburg, Kronstadt, Vladivostok, Sevastopol and others. Traditionally, on the holiday, the St. Andrew's Flag, the main symbol of the Navy, is solemnly hoisted on all ships.

Military ship parades, concerts, workshops and meetings with veterans are also held on this day. Military personnel demonstrate their skills at demonstrations and competitions. Children and adults can visit some of the vessels and learn how they work. The celebration ends with a colorful fireworks display.ИЗВЕСТИЯ/Сергей Коньков

Happy Navy Day: wishes to the sailor — former, current and future

Military sailors are strong, brave and determined people who are ready to risk their lives for the sake of fulfilling their duty. They spend most of their time on flights that can last for several months. Therefore, on Navy Day, it is important to support the defenders of the maritime expanses of the Fatherland with warm wishes. Here's how it can be done:

"Happy Navy Day! May the sea be kind to you, and may time away from home pass unnoticed. I wish you fulfillment of your cherished desires, true love and a fair wind!"

"On Navy Day, I want to wish you good health, fortitude and faith in the best. Bravely overcome the waves of difficulties and storms of failures, go to your goal. Remember that your ship has a safe harbor to which it can always return."

Future sailors, students of naval academies and colleges, also receive congratulations on the holiday. They have yet to learn what mighty storms and deep waters are, but they are already ready to serve for the good of the Motherland.РИА Новости/Александр Гальперин

"Happy Navy Day, dear students! We wish you to confidently pursue your goals, keep in your heart the love of the Fatherland and loyalty to your loved ones. May service become a vocation for you, and the sea become your home."

"I sincerely congratulate you on the Day of the Navy! Soon you will join the ranks of the brave defenders of the seas and contribute to the defense of the country. I wish you success in your studies and in your service, loyal comrades and exciting discoveries!"

On Navy Day, do not forget about those who have already left military service.

"Congratulations on Navy Day! It is believed that there are no former sailors — everyone who served in the navy retains a piece of the sea in their soul. I wish you to remain a courageous, positive and loving person, not to lose your presence of mind in difficult situations and always achieve your goals!"

"Today we congratulate all the sailors who served in the Russian Navy. Thank you for your dedication, valor and honor. We wish you good health, family happiness, well-being and prosperity!"

Funny congratulations on the Day of the Russian Navy in your own words

A sense of humor and nautical metaphors will help to congratulate a military sailor in an original way. You can also use traditional toasts such as "To the sailors, their wives and girlfriends!", "A fair wind and seven feet under the keel!", etc.

"On Navy Day, I wish you to never lose your course, deftly glide over giant waves, never suffer from seasickness and always return to your native harbor!"ИЗВЕСТИЯ/Сергей Коньков

"On Navy Day, let's raise a glass to the brave sailors! May Neptune be pleased with you, and the ship of destiny never runs aground. Be as cunning as flounders, as grasping as octopuses, as persistent as seagulls, and as free as the wind!"

Earlier, Izvestia told how the Day of Workers of the Marine and River Fleet is celebrated in Russia.
