Trump offered to land Rubio in Cuba to "solve the problem"
On October 27, US President Donald Trump proposed parachuting Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Cuba to resolve the situation between the two countries.
"Maybe when we're done with Iran, we'll drop Marco off in Cuba on the way back. We'll send him there by parachute. We will land him right in the middle of Cuba, and he will solve this problem in two minutes," Trump said at a rally of supporters of the Republican Party in Texas. His speech was posted on the Fox News YouTube channel.
During his speech, Trump also made it clear that, in his opinion, Cuba is turning towards Washington, like the rest, because the United States is once again respected. Trump did not specify what exactly he meant by the Cuban movement.
On September 29, the United States imposed new sanctions on Cuba. The restrictions provide for the introduction of secondary sanctions against foreign financial institutions for conducting transactions in the interests of individuals on the US sanctions lists, as well as a direct ban on banks from opening and servicing accounts of Cuban entrepreneurs with the mandatory immediate freezing of existing funds.
On September 22, Trump announced that his administration was seeking to fundamentally change the situation in Cuba. He also reported on the negotiations with Havana and stated that the United States would not allow the republic's territory to be used to threaten Washington. On September 26, the American president rejected the possibility of conducting a military operation against Cuba.
