In Ukraine, a decrease in the population was reported to 28.5 million people.
In July of this year, the population of Ukraine was 29 million people, now it has decreased to 28.5 million. This was announced on October 22 by Director of the Ukrainian Institute of Demography of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) Ella Libanova.
"Just a few days ago, we finished work on population estimates for the middle of the year: 28.5 [million] already. We lost half a million," the Strana newspaper quotes Libanova as saying.ua" in the Teleram channel.
According to her, the main reason for the population decline is travel abroad, not death. She stressed that since people are alive, it is possible to return them to the country.
Libanova fears a second wave of migration after the end of the conflict. When martial law is lifted in the country, men will be able to leave Ukraine. She believes that the decision of those who have returned from the front will largely depend on whether the state can provide them with decent work and pay for it.
Dmitry Medvedev, chairman of United Russia and deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, said on August 22 that Ukraine had lost half of its population and 20% of the territories that "happened to belong to them." Medvedev added that he believes everyone can see the outcome of what is happening, including those who hold anti-Russian views.
