Canada declared mourning after the fire at the Wainwright military base. This was reported on October 18 by the CTV News channel.

"As a sign of respect for the victims, flags on all federal buildings were lowered to half—mast," the publication says.

The article also notes that the identities of the four dead soldiers have been established. Among them are Sergeant Morgan Wong, originally from Edmonton, Private Sean Farrell from Prince Albert (Saskatchewan), Private Aidan Golding from North Vancouver and Private Hayden Lykkemark from Langley (British Columbia).

Speaking to reporters in Ottawa, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney called the incident one of the gravest peacetime tragedies for the Canadian armed forces, adds "Газета.ги ".

The CTV News channel reported on the same day that almost 40 people were hospitalized as a result of the fire. The condition of a significant part of the victims remains extremely serious — 19 people are in critical condition.

The Global News channel, citing informed sources, reported on the same day that at least seven people were killed and dozens injured in the explosion and subsequent fire. According to preliminary data, the incident occurred during a shooting exercise. During the maneuvers, the gas pipeline on the territory of the military base could have been damaged, which led to an explosion and subsequent fire. The spread of the fire was facilitated by gusty winds in the province of Alberta, where the base is located.
