The capture of the city of Dobropillya brought the Russian army closer to the complete liberation of Donbass. This was announced on October 17 by the head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) Denis Pushilin.

"This settlement [Dobropillya], in fact, is already one of the extreme ones on the border of the Donetsk People's Republic towards the Dnipropetrovsk region.<...> This has significantly brought us closer to one of the main goals — the complete liberation of Donbass," he said in an interview with TASS.

Pushilin reported on October 17 that the loss of Alekseevo-Druzhkovka and Dobropillya was painful for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). According to him, the current Ukrainian government pays more attention to media losses at the front, and the Ukrainian Armed Forces will send large forces to try to turn the situation around, "especially in such iconic settlements as Dobropillya."

On October 16, the Russian army took control of Dobropillya and Alekseevo-Druzhkovka in the DPR. Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, said that the Russian military is currently conducting search operations to identify and destroy individual Ukrainian Armed Forces militants hiding in the basements of buildings. Units of the Center group of forces are also advancing in the direction of Alexandrovka.
