The political scientist spoke about the importance of the Volchansk boiler for the Belgorod region

The creation of the Volchansk pocket made it possible to move the line of contact away from the Belgorod region, which was under fire due to the proximity of Ukrainian troops. Political scientist Oleg Vedutov told Izvestia about this on October 16.

"We can say that this story is very important for both Ukraine and Russia. And the fact that Ukraine now categorically denies the creation of this very cauldron and generally reacts extremely nervously speaks to the exceptional strategic importance of this victory," he said.

According to him, the encirclement of the Ukrainian group will also expand the operational capabilities of Russian troops for further offensive operations in the Kharkiv region in 2027.

According to the political scientist, the operation was the result of a long preparation. First, logistical channels were cut, after which Russian troops occupied the last settlements and closed the encirclement, inside which, according to Vedutov, a significant group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine remained.

On the same day, the Russian Army established full control over the Volchansk–Budarki highway, through which the Ukrainian Armed Forces tried to lay logistics routes. According to the ministry, during the fighting, assault units provided adjustments for artillery strikes, and drone crews monitored the movement of Ukrainian equipment. The detected vehicles were destroyed before arriving at the positions, which made it possible to disrupt the delivery of ammunition and food.
