Pope Leo XIV celebrated his first mass after surgery in the ward of the Gemelli Hospital, where he is recovering from lung surgery. This was reported on October 16 by Vatican News.

"In his homily, the Holy Father thanked all the workers — doctors, nurses and orderlies — for their daily care for the sick and their infirmities, and especially for everything they have done and continue to do for him," the press service of the Holy See reports.

It is noted that several employees of the Gemelli Hospital, as well as employees of the Vatican State Gendarmerie corps, attended the mass. In addition, the Sunday prayer "Angel of the Lord" with the Pope will take place.

On October 13, Pope Leo XIV underwent surgery to remove a malignant neoplasm in his lung. Surgical intervention was performed using video-assisted technology. The operation was performed for about 1.5 hours, it was successful and without complications. During the operation, the pontiff had the lower part of his right lung removed.
