The West is trying to interfere in the early parliamentary elections in Serbia and destabilize the situation in the country with the help of radical forces. This was announced on October 15 by Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev.

"Unfortunately, we are also witnessing attempts by the West to interfere in the electoral processes as part of the early parliamentary elections and to sway the situation through radical destructive forces," he wrote on the Maks messenger after a meeting with Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic.

Medvedev noted that Russia is closely following the course of the election campaign in Serbia and wishes success to its partners. He also stressed that relations between Russia and Serbia are based on the traditions of brotherhood, trust and mutual assistance.

In the message, he said that he had discussed with Dacic the international and regional agenda, bilateral relations, as well as interdepartmental and inter-party cooperation.

Vucic resigned as President of Serbia on September 27. He plans to participate in the upcoming elections as the candidate of the Serbian Progressive Party for the post of Prime Minister. On September 28, Vucic handed over his powers to the Chairman of the Speaker of the National Assembly (unicameral Parliament) Ana Brnabic, who will become the interim leader of the country.
