Insurers and investors are faced with increasing risks of maritime trade with Ukraine. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on October 14.

"Insurers and investors are weighing the risks and costs of continuing to work with Ukrainian ports," the publication says.

According to the newspaper, five commercial vessels have recently been attacked off the coast of Bulgaria and Romania, while it is unknown by whom the strikes were carried out. A representative of the European transport company said that "the situation in the Black Sea remains very dangerous," as strikes are being carried out "from both sides."

As a result, the sea traffic of grain from Ukraine "dropped sharply due to security risks," so they are trying to ship some of the cargo along the Danube, where the water level has dropped significantly after the summer drought. According to Ukrainian Agriculture Minister Taras Vysotsky, "millions of tons of unsold grain are accumulating in the country," and if it cannot be sold, it will be impossible to replant the land.

"No one is ready to invest and rebuild, because you know that tomorrow there will be another rocket, another group of drones," Oleg Grigoryuk, chairman of the Ukrainian Maritime Transport Workers' Union, told the newspaper.

On October 8, the Turkish authorities launched an initiative to ensure the safety of commercial shipping in the Black Sea. The plan provides for the creation of separate routes for Russian and Ukrainian civilian vessels. According to the Turkish proposal, it is planned to open a security corridor to the Bosphorus Strait along the coasts of Romania and Bulgaria for ships sailing from Ukrainian ports. The route for the Russian merchant fleet is proposed to be laid along the coasts of Georgia and Turkey.
