- The icon of the "cyber apostle" created by AI was consecrated in Belarus for the first time
In Belarus, the icon of the "cyber apostle" created by artificial intelligence (AI) was consecrated for the first time. This was announced on October 11 on the website of the official portal of the Catholic Church of the Republic.
"On October 11, Archbishop-Emeritus Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz blessed a new icon at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Novolukomla. This image, which is still unusual for the Catholic Church in Belarus and around the world, is St. Carlo Akutis. Moreover, the icon was specially created using artificial intelligence," the publication says.
The image of Saint Carlo Akutis, canonized in 2025, will serve as a veil for the icon of Saint Mary Magdalene, the main patroness of the parish. The rector of the Novolukomsky parish explained that these icons "combine the evangelical history of the first century of Christianity with the needs of the modern digital 21st century."
During the blessing of the icon, there was singing created for the canonization of Carlo Akutis, who is called the "cyber apostle" because of his desire to spread the Catholic faith through the Internet. He also created an "online catalog of Eucharistic miracles."
In 2024, Pope Francis confirmed the second posthumous miracle attributed to Carlo Akutis, who died in 2006 at the age of 15 from leukemia. This gave Akutis the right to be canonized, he became the first saint of the current millennium. The first miracle attributed by the Vatican to Acutis was the healing of a Brazilian seven-year-old child from a fatal congenital disease affecting the pancreas. The second miracle was the healing of Valeria Valverde, a student from Florence, who suffered a brain hemorrhage after being injured while riding a bicycle.
