The priest named the main prayers for the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos
On the feast of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, which Orthodox believers celebrate on October 14, one can read the troparion, kontakion, canon and akathist dedicated to the Mother of God. At the same time, there is no concept of particularly powerful prayers in Orthodoxy. Vladislav Beregovoy, a priest and head of the missionary department of the Pesochenskaya diocese, told Izvestia about this.
"In Orthodoxy, there is no concept of strong or special prayers. Any prayer is an expression of our feelings, emotions, and experiences addressed to the Lord God, the Virgin, or the saints. Therefore, traditionally, on any holiday, we go to the church for the liturgy. We confess, receive communion, or just pray during the divine service," the priest explained.
According to Beregovoy, believers can turn to the Mother of God for Protection with any requests, including for health, protection of loved ones and help in difficult circumstances. In addition, you can express gratitude.
A special place in the divine service is occupied by the troparion and kontakion of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos. In the troparion, believers ask the Mother of God to protect them from evil and intercede with the Lord for the salvation of souls. The kontakion is dedicated to her prayerful intercession for people.
The priest clarified that if it is impossible to visit the temple, believers can pray at home. In addition to the morning and evening prayer rules, it is allowed to read the Psalter, canon or akathist to the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Holiday prayers can also be listened to on the record on the way to work or during a trip.
Beregovoy stressed that the main content of the holiday is faith in the intercession of the Mother of God, and not the search for prayers that supposedly guarantee the fulfillment of requests.
