The US administration is not ready to support any of the current candidates for the post of UN Secretary General. The reason is that their views are not close enough to the American President Donald Trump, who intends to seek radical reforms in the organization. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on October 11.

"There are no reformers on the entire list of candidates that the United States would like to see. And some seem even more inclined to maintain the status quo," said an official from the Trump administration.

The representative of the US State Department noted that "a professional from among those close to the organization is not necessarily suitable for this position," as "a person is needed who is able to make some adjustments."

As Politico notes, such an active promotion of the Secretary General's candidacy and the sharp rejection of a number of candidates indicate the serious desire of the White House to strengthen its influence on the UN.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on September 26 that Russia expects the new UN Secretary General to represent the interests of all mankind, not just the "golden billion."
