The French government has not presented a clear plan to resolve the large-scale protests of high school students, which threatens Paris with increased protest sentiment in the country, especially ahead of the presidential elections. This opinion was expressed on October 11 by Bloomberg columnist Alan Katz.

"The current government seems to be caught off guard by the protests of high school students. <...> This has aggravated the already unstable and tense internal situation ahead of next year's presidential election," Katz writes.

As the observer notes, the already traditionally large budget deficit, with inflation and interest rates pushed up by the energy crisis, has left Paris without funds for priority domestic spending that could meet the demands of the protesters. However, high school students are far from the only group in France whose demands remain unfulfilled, and public discontent continues to grow, Katz writes. With Paris unable to respond to existing challenges, the pressure on it will only increase ahead of the presidential elections to be held in April 2027.

"A wide range of interest groups understands that now is the time to apply pressure. <...> It may also mean that there are many more riots ahead," the article says.

On October 8, Radio Franceinfo reported that the work of 375 lyceums in France was completely or partially disrupted due to the ongoing protests of high school students. The mass demonstrations of students began on September 29 and covered the whole of France: students demanded to improve the learning conditions, change the overloaded schedule and solve the problem of the shortage of teachers. Le Figaro newspaper noted that at least 215 students and 85 education staff were injured during the protests.
