The media reported on the spread of sexual diarrhea in the United States
The incidence of shigellosis, a sexually transmitted diarrhea, is on the rise in the United States. The pathogen turns into an antibiotic-resistant "superbug". This was reported on October 8 by the New York Post (NYP).
"Today, this infection is increasingly sexually transmitted and evolving, becoming almost incurable. Every year, Shigella bacteria (the causative agents of shigellosis) infect almost half a million people in the United States, causing diarrhea with an admixture of blood or mucus (a characteristic sign of dysentery), abdominal pain and cramps, fever and vomiting," the article says.
It is noted that the infection is especially often detected in adult men. According to NYP, the proportion of strains resistant to five common antibiotics in the United States has increased from 0% in 2011 to 8.5% in 2023. If in 2022 only one such case was recorded in California for the entire year, now they are detected about once a month.
Bloomberg reported on September 4 that the number of confirmed measles cases in the United States has reached 3,134 since the beginning of the year, with the outbreak in Pennsylvania leading to two deaths. During that week, 231 new cases were confirmed. In Pennsylvania, as of September 2, 540 cases and 91 hospitalizations were detected, with the majority of infections occurring in Lancaster County.
