- The active phase of construction of the Luganskaya metro station has begun in Moscow
Moscow has begun active construction work on the future Luganskaya station on the Biryulevskaya metro line, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said. The station will be "located in Tsaritsyn along Kavkazsky Boulevard and will become home to 90,000 people living and working in the area," the mayor wrote on his channel in Maks.
According to Sobyanin, the new station will have two underground vestibules with exits on both sides of Kavkazsky Boulevard. Eight elevators will be installed at Luganskaya for passengers with limited mobility. The opening of the new station will help reduce the load on Kantemirovskaya and the Tsaritsyno transport hub, the mayor added.
The completion of the Biryulevskaya line is planned for 2028-2029. "The line will serve about 10 districts of the capital and the Moscow region,— Sobyanin said. "It is expected that in 2030, more than 165,000 people will use it daily."
The day before, Sobyanin said that the Moscow metro ranks first in terms of train upgrades among the subways of Europe and America. "In 2010, the share of new trains was about 13%, now it is more than 80%. According to the Transport Strategy, this figure will exceed 90% in 2030," he said.
The first Moscow 2020 train started running on the Ring Line six years ago, the mayor of the capital recalled. "This event took place in October 2020, and in June 2021 we fully completed the renovation of the Ring Line fleet," Sobyanin said. 280 wagons of this series are currently operating on the ring.
