On the morning of October 8, during the extinguishing of a fire in an apartment on the fourth floor of a residential building on Gamarnik Street in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, the bodies of five people were found — a woman and her four children. Death of Maricarmen Abascal in Spain

Abascal, whose eviction from an apartment in Madrid sparked protests amid Spain's housing crisis, has died at the age of 87. On September 23, the woman was evicted from her home, after which she was hospitalized. Despite a later agreement allowing her to return home, she was unable to do so.

"We regret to inform you that Maricarmen passed away today. <...> After her passing, we are left with an example of her struggle and the legacy she left behind," the tenants' union Sindicato de Inquilinas said in a statement.
