The State Duma proposed to raise academic scholarships to the minimum wage level
Academic scholarships should be set at the minimum wage level so that students can focus on their studies and not be forced to look for additional earnings. This was announced on October 6 by State Duma Deputy Igor Antropenko.
"A scholarship for academic achievement should not be lower than the minimum wage and allow a student to study in peace without combining study with work," said Antropenko, quoted by TASS.
The deputy noted that the issue of the size of academic scholarships was repeatedly discussed during meetings with students. According to him, financial support is especially important for students who have already started families.
Antropenko noted that currently the average academic scholarship is a little more than two thousand rubles per month. According to him, graduate students and residents receive a little more — over 10 thousand rubles, but this amount is not enough to provide for an adult on their own. At the same time, the deputy stressed that the need to earn extra money can negatively affect students' academic performance.
The MP stressed that raising scholarships to the minimum wage level can encourage students to pay more attention to their studies, contribute to the growth of their academic performance and, in the future, improve the professional level of specialists.
On September 15, the press service of the Social Fund of Russia reported that the average amount of maternity benefits for female students has more than quadrupled since the transition to the new rules and amounts to about 96 thousand rubles. Since September 1, 2025, the Social Fund of Russia has been responsible for the appointment and payment of benefits to full-time students. Before that, the funds were paid by educational organizations. At the same time, the payment calculation procedure has changed.
