Intestinal cleansing is not necessary for a healthy person: the body independently copes with the elimination of toxins, and there is no medical concept of "slags" and "stagnant toxins". Elina Aranovich, head of therapy at the Yusupov Hospital, reminded Izvestia about this on October 5.

Earlier that day, a Muscovite woman was admitted to the hospital after the advice of an AI healer: a 68-year-old woman drank a decoction with lemon and black pepper to "cleanse her intestines" — at night she had severe pain, blood pressure dropped and bloody vomiting began, the pensioner was urgently hospitalized.

"The body is complex and harmonious, and the elimination of toxins formed during metabolism is fully carried out without active intervention. If cleansing does not occur or there is such a feeling, it is necessary to consult a doctor. Even if everything went well and you feel better, it is advisable not to repeat the experiments," Aranovich said.

According to her, intestinal cleansing normally occurs naturally against the background of a balanced diet with fiber and sufficient fluid intake. Toxic metabolic products remain in the body longer when a particular system is disrupted, and then you can't do without a doctor. Only a specialist can prescribe an examination and competent treatment based on evidence-based medicine.

The expert warned that popular "elixirs", such as decoction with lemon and black pepper, can provoke erosive and ulcerative lesions of the mucous membrane of the esophagus or stomach, which leads to internal bleeding with decreased pressure and shock. As a result of folk cleansing or AI advice, there is a high probability of severe complications: impaired water and electrolyte balance, liver, kidney damage, ulcerative lesions of the stomach or intestines.

According to her, such experiments are not recommended to anyone, but they are most dangerous for patients with chronic diseases: any organ can be affected. This can result in multiple organ failure and hospitalization in intensive care.

If you experience repeated vomiting, diarrhea, or low blood pressure after "cleansing," it is better to seek medical help immediately — to see a therapist or call an ambulance. The main thing is to get a doctor's examination as soon as possible.

As a safe alternative, the expert recommends a balanced diet without mono-diets with fiber, a drinking regime (at least 1.5 liters of water per day), control over stool regularity, adequate sleep and moderate physical activity outdoors.

Nutritionist, gastroenterologist, hepatologist and eating psychologist Nuria Dianova spoke on September 24 about the importance of afternoon tea in the autumn-winter period. According to her, an additional meal between lunch and dinner helps reduce the risk of emotional and physiological hunger, which makes people more likely to choose high-calorie foods on the way home. The doctor noted that in winter, many people reduce the amount of vegetables and fruits in their diet and more often choose fatty and sugary foods, which can lead to weight gain.
