The Iranian parliament will consider a proposal on the withdrawal of the Islamic Republic from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). This was announced by Ali Nikzad, Deputy Speaker of the country's legislature.

"The draft on withdrawal from the NPT is under consideration. After its official introduction, it will be reviewed on the same day," the Fars news agency quoted Nikzad as saying on the Telegram channel.

The politician clarified that during the discussion, Iranian lawmakers intend to study in detail the international aspects and possible consequences of such a step.

The preparation of the initiative is related to the critical position of the Iranian authorities towards the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Nikzad stressed that the parliament does not trust the organization and its current head, Rafael Grossi.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on September 27 that the enrichment of uranium to 60% is carried out by the republic exclusively for peaceful purposes and complies with the country's obligations under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. He added that Iran is ready to discuss with the United States a possible deal on uranium enriched to 60%, but for this it is necessary to restore trust between the parties.
