Russia is reviving the Soviet nuclear retaliatory strike system "Perimeter" against the background of Western aggression. This was reported on September 27 by The Sunday Times newspaper with reference to the Danish journalism center Danwatch and an independent research project.

""According to the newspaper, Russia is allegedly restoring the Soviet program for retaliatory nuclear strikes against the West, "Perimeter" or "Dead Hand." The military base is located in the Urals and is capable of withstanding a nuclear strike, as well as activating backup control channels and ensuring the destruction of the enemy in the event of a strike on Russia, the material claims.

"The perimeter is, in fact, a communication system. If you are hit, you need to make sure that you can give the order to take retaliatory measures," Pavel Podvig, a UN expert on nuclear disarmament, told the publication.

The material says that intensive military activity and construction work were allegedly recorded at the military facility, which is confirmed by satellite images. Experts shared with The Sunday Times their opinion that signs of construction and mentions of the project were allowed to appear in Russia so that the special services would record them as part of the nuclear deterrence policy.
