Director Sturm called on Germany to maintain cultural dialogue with Russia
On September 26, German director and screenwriter Michael Sturm, during the XII St. Petersburg International Forum of United Cultures, stated the need to continue the cultural dialogue between Germany and Russia, stressing that Berlin should make efforts to preserve the opportunity to talk with Moscow on a common cultural level.
"The education system in Germany had a good reputation, but now it lives in the past. And I have to say this: I'm not sure that in the future German students will know who Goethe is and who Tolstoy is. Here (in Germany. — Ed.) now everything is different. And we need to make an effort in Germany to talk to you on the same cultural level again," he said.
Sturm noted that Russian culture remains an important part of the European cultural space. In his opinion, without her, the cultural life of Germany becomes less saturated.
The director noted that there is a gradual estrangement between the parties, despite their common connection with the European cultural context.
In addition, Hans-Joachim Fry, the founder of the "Bridge of Arts" Foundation, noted that the Russian art education system can serve as a model for other countries of the world.
"And in Belarus, Russia, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan — in all these countries, they are raising an excellent musical elite of people who can perform at the highest level. It is very important to understand this," he said.
According to him, about 60% of the talented opera performers performing on the leading stages of Europe today come from the countries of the former Soviet Union.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on September 25 that Russia is always open to the closest cooperation with other countries in the field of culture. The President pointed out that international cultural cooperation is developing in traditional formats. "Russian Seasons" programs were among them.
