The average result of the USE of Moscow schoolchildren this year turned out to be nine points higher than the national average. This is the result of both a high level of training in educational institutions and the implementation of a program to upgrade the school infrastructure, which allows creating a modern educational environment that motivates each student to immerse themselves deeper into the subjects they study. The increase in the quality of education is due to the comprehensive development of human resources, the modernization of educational spaces and the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment, experts say. "Izvestia" understood how a personalized approach to a child works and what new mechanisms help to choose a career path.

How schools are being reconstructed and built

The Moscow authorities have summed up the interim results of the large-scale "My School" program, which reconstructs existing schools and builds new buildings.

The project has been operating in the capital for the third year. By 2025, 55 buildings have been renovated. In September 2026, after the reconstruction, one hundred school buildings were opened at once, and 85 more are undergoing renovation work. In total, about 700 facilities are planned to be renovated by 2032.

"Our task is to completely transform the educational space so that it meets the best international standards," said Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development.

The renovated schools are equipped with a new generation of equipment, providing children with opportunities for in-depth practice in science, engineering and IT fields.

""The classrooms of physics, chemistry, computer science, and biology have turned into high—tech laboratories," Tatiana Turkan, director of Moscow school No. 1560 "Leader," told Izvestia. — They are equipped with the most modern equipment, which is interesting for children and develops their motivation in studying subjects.

According to her, this approach helps the student to understand whether it is worth going further to the medical class or whether it is not his. And someone, being carried away by the practical side, decides to continue their studies at college.

— The modern space of the renovated building creates a positive educational environment that surrounds the child, — said the school principal. — And now it has become possible to conduct even more interactive lessons thanks to new equipment: digital microscopes, 3D printers, etc. Many of our guys are already interested in science.

Where reconstruction is no longer feasible, "schools of the future" will be built. Today, 11 such facilities are already in the design process, where different levels of education will be implemented, and the functionality of each block will be developed taking into account the psychology and ergonomics of students. Specialized clusters will also be created there: scientific and laboratory, sports and recreation, creative and project. There will be private streets, squares, sports and recreation areas inside.

— This solution is relevant for the Moscow climate: a significant part of the school year falls during the cold months, when it is difficult to spend a lot of time outside, — said Anastasia Rakova.

College infrastructure

Modernization of the secondary vocational education system has been going on in the capital for several years. In addition to cooperation with the city's leading employers and updating educational programs, modern conditions are being created for practical training of students, including updating the material and technical base of colleges. In particular, laboratories and workshops are being retrofitted — since 2023, their number has reached almost 1.5 thousand. Since the first year, students have been learning the profession using equipment from employers in the city, said Elena Sumakova, Deputy director of the Moscow Center for the Development of Vocational Education.

Ivan Stepanov, director of the I.A. Likhachev Moscow College of Technology, noted that ninth-graders and their parents do not consider college an alternative to higher education, but perceive it as a completely separate educational trajectory and a conscious choice for the whole family.

— College today is the fastest way to enter a profession that is really needed in the labor market. This is an opportunity to start earning money already in the senior years of study. And the annual renovation of workshops and laboratories, including with the direct participation of employers, influences this choice. The children's practice begins in parallel with their studies in the first year," he said.

Practical training takes at least 70% of the study time. In total, Moscow colleges cooperate with more than 3.8 thousand employers.

"By the end of 2027, it is planned to re-equip 600 workshops and laboratories. In total, about 2050 will be upgraded," the Department of Education noted.

It is planned to completely upgrade the infrastructure by 2031. Seven more new modern colleges will be built in the capital, where about 60 thousand students will study. Four facilities are already being designed, and territory preparation has begun for two of them.

Choosing a future profession

The city's comprehensive career guidance program has been operating in Moscow since 2023, and more than 200,000 schoolchildren have completed it. For example, 93% of ninth graders enrolled in colleges in the new semester participated in at least one event within the framework of the project. Tatiana Smirnova, director of Maryinsky School No. 1566, noted that the issue of vocational guidance for students is one of the priorities.

— Now they have been working with children since at least the eighth grade: This is an age when a person already understands their interests and capabilities and can make an informed choice over a longer period of time. And career guidance testing allows a child to take into account their abilities, successes, and health status," said the school principal. — And then there is a mandatory consultation with a career mentor and a college representative.

For this purpose, the center "Professions of the Future" has been created in Moscow. It is important that after that the students can attend practical workshops at colleges and take a tour of the city's enterprises.

— Every child goes through the career guidance program by the 9th grade, and it has fully justified itself, - said Tatiana Smirnova.

She added that the Moscow Electronic School (MAS) has become one of the most useful mechanisms. There is a student's portfolio on this portal, where children take professional tests. In addition, the system can help you choose a university based on the points received for state exams, choose a college or clubs related to your future chosen profession.

Development of the human resources potential of Moscow education

Andrey Kondrat, an expert on career guidance at the National Research University "MEI", noted the quality of teacher training for Moscow educational institutions as a key factor.

— Moscow schools employ professionals, including in specialized engineering subjects: physics, mathematics, computer science. Teachers annually take advanced training courses, including in new educational disciplines. Such teachers will provide a high level of training for schoolchildren," he said.

In the new academic year, special attention is being paid to strengthening the subject training of future teachers.

"We are systematically engaged in the development of teachers' human resources. In particular, for the first time, we have opened a targeted recruitment process at the Moscow State Pedagogical University, the main forge of Moscow education personnel," said Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

The new training format will allow future teachers to simultaneously master the profession and study specialized disciplines in depth.

An important innovation is the online educational programs, the implementation of which will begin this year, said Elena Gevorgyan, Acting Rector of MGPU.

— Physics teachers will be trained jointly with MIPT and MEPhI, mathematics and computer science teachers — with MISIS, Moscow Polytechnic University and Bauman Moscow State Technical University. In biology and chemistry, Rosbiotech will act as a partner. This cooperation is useful for everyone: we will improve the quality of teachers' subject training, and they, in turn, will improve the quality of school students' training. As a result, strong applicants will come to technical universities," she said.

Moscow schoolchildren are becoming more successful

In the final grade, the educational process is built taking into account the upcoming passing of the Unified State Exam and admission to the university, said Andrey Kondrat.:

— Children go through the curriculum for the 11th grade in the first and beginning of the second half of the year, and then they are closely engaged in those subjects that are necessary for admission to university. For this purpose, special elective courses are organized for effective preparation. Before that, the children had to study with tutors, but now there is no special need for this, because the school itself provides high—quality preparation for the Unified State Exam," the expert pointed out.

""Not only is the number of high results growing, but the overall level of school students' education is also increasing: more and more ninth graders are passing the BSE for "four" and "five", and the proportion of graduates who have not passed the minimum threshold is decreasing.

The Moscow authorities consider the development of a strong secondary school to be their next task.

— Moscow carefully monitors current trends that are required for tomorrow's specialists. Therefore, starting from the 5th grade, the experiment on the introduction of AI-related courses will continue this year. A textbook has been created for this purpose and a special course has been introduced. Also, extended mathematical training has been conducted since the 5th grade," added Andrey Kondrat.

According to him, the development of the Moscow education system is built around five interrelated areas: the level of education in each school, the fundamental basis in mathematics and natural sciences, a personalized approach to each child, a modern educational environment and strong teaching staff.
