The scammers began to lure out the PTS data under the pretext of installing a barrier

Scammers have come up with a new scheme using vehicle passport data: They introduce themselves as employees of organizations that service yard barriers, and under this pretext they receive information about residents' cars. This was announced on September 24 by Evgeny Masharov, a member of the commission of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation for public control and work with citizens' appeals.

According to him, the attackers inform the apartment owners about the alleged replacement of equipment in the courtyard and ask them to provide passport data and information from the customs control system to issue new access keys. They use the information they receive for further fraud.

""Scammers place a fake advertisement for the sale of a vehicle on bulletin boards on the Internet, intimidating a person that his car is for sale, and offer him to urgently transfer money for the car to a special account so that it is not sold to third parties," Masharov shared in a conversation with RIA Novosti."

He noted that allegedly law enforcement officers, car dealerships and other organizations can also join such schemes.

The scammers will focus on studies, taxes and the heating season.

On September 21, it became known from the materials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation that Russians should immediately stop talking if the caller introduces himself as a law enforcement officer and reports a threat to bank accounts or an attempt to apply for a loan in the name of the interlocutor. In addition, attackers can impersonate bank employees or representatives of mobile operators.
