Rubio spoke about the role of contacts between the United States and the USSR in preventing a "real war"

Direct contacts between Washington and Moscow during the Cold War helped to avoid a large-scale military clash. This was stated on September 23 by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking about the importance of cooperation between states.

"Russi at the height of the Cold War, in the face of the threat of nuclear annihilation and the death of all life on Earth, the United States maintained contacts and held meetings with Russian, Soviet, and officials. And thank the Soviet officials and God that we did this, because it prevented a real war," Rubio said after meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

The Secretary of State stressed that even today the parties must maintain the possibility of dialogue and interaction at the highest level.

The meeting of the foreign ministers in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly lasted 52 minutes.
