There is no talk of warming up between Poland and Belarus, despite the negotiations between the foreign ministers of the two countries, but a cautious rapprochement on some issues is possible. This was stated by Vladimir Shapovalov, Deputy director of the Institute of History and Politics of Moscow State University, in an interview with "Izvestia".

"I would consider what is happening in the context of the American-Belarusian relations. Washington has established a dialogue with Minsk, and Warsaw has been the main US outpost in Eastern Europe for decades. It is important for Poland to show the Americans that it remains their ally and continues to act in their wake," he explained.

At the same time, in reality, according to the expert, Warsaw's policy towards the east is unlikely to change. He noted that Belarus, like Russia, will remain one of Poland's main enemies.

"The support of the opponents of [President of Belarus Alexander] Lukashenko will continue, militarization will continue. Perhaps the intensity of the information war will decrease and the most hostile actions will be canceled. In fact, this is already quite a lot, any dialogue is better than conflict," the source said.

On September 23, the Foreign Ministers of Poland and Belarus, Radoslaw Sikorski and Maxim Ryzhenkov, met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The Polish diplomat recalled that it was the first time in ten years that the parties were communicating at this level, and did not rule out that an improvement in relations between Minsk and Warsaw was possible.
