The gardener gave advice on the proper harvesting of apples for storage
Andrey Tumanov, chairman of the "Moscow Horticulturists Union" NGO, an expert, told how to harvest apples properly so that they can last as long as possible. In conversation with aif.ru On Tuesday, September 22, he noted that apples should be harvested manually, one at a time, without using fruit pickers and without shaking the fruits from the trees.
Even when falling on a stretched tarp, apples hit each other, and damaged fruits are not stored for a long time. According to the expert, you should not pull the apple sharply during harvesting.: this way you can damage the fruit formation and lose the harvest for the next year. Instead, the fruit should be turned slightly, holding it with your index finger at the stem.
After harvesting, the apples should be sorted. It is better to send battered, wormy and rotting fruits for processing, and put the rest in wooden boxes and put them in the cellar. Tumanov stressed that stocks should be regularly checked and spoiled apples removed so that the rot does not spread to neighboring fruits.
Also on this day, Tumanov named ways to protect cottages from rodents. According to him, it is possible to combine mousetraps, glue traps and ready-made poisoned baits, notes 360.ru . Tumanov also advised removing rotten apples from the garden, as they serve as a source of infection and can harm healthy trees, writes RT.
On September 8, Kirill Kovalev, a farmer and horticulturist, named ways to preserve crops during the first frosts. The expert recommends using spunbond or agrotextile. According to him, such materials can increase the temperature under shelter by several degrees and reduce the risk of damage to plants.
In August, phytochemistry specialist Igor Sokolsky dispelled the myth that a wormy apple is the most natural. According to him, the wax coating that buyers fear is applied to apples after harvest to extend the shelf life. It does not affect the environmental friendliness of the product, RIAMO notes.
Prior to that, horticulturist Oleg Kobets told Pravda.Ru It is recommended to eat at least two apples a day for tangible benefits. The pectin contained in them acts as a natural sorbent, and regular consumption has a beneficial effect on metabolism.
