British Columbia authorities have filed a lawsuit against OpenAI after the school shooting

The government of the Canadian province of British Columbia has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI in a California court following the events surrounding the Tumblr Ridge mass shooting. This was reported on September 21 by the CBC News channel with reference to the Attorney General of the province, Niki Sharma.

"The government of British Columbia is filing a lawsuit against OpenAI in a California court, accusing it of involvement in the events leading up to the mass shooting in Tumblr Ridge in February this year," the publication says.

Sharma noted that the lawsuit is related to the fact that OpenAI did not inform law enforcement agencies about the threats that were voiced on ChatGPT before the shooting began.

The company is also accused of developing a product that does not provide an adequate level of security. According to the prosecutor, the contents of the shooter's correspondence with ChatGPT caused such serious concern that it was decided to conduct an audit inside the company. At the same time, allegedly, information about the incident was not passed on to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

CBC News reported on February 10 that nine people were killed in a shooting at Tumblr Ridge High School in Canada. According to media reports, the police found the bodies of eight people, another deceased died on the way to the hospital. The shooting suspect was found dead from "self-inflicted injuries."
