Trump announced plans to lift duties on Irish whiskey

On September 13, US President Donald Trump announced that he was going to cancel customs duties on Irish whiskey.

"On behalf of the United States, I will cancel duties [on Irish whiskey]," he said at a golf tournament during a visit to Ireland.

Trump noted that he had been repeatedly approached about the abolition of duties. According to the head of the White House, Irish golfer Shane Lowry spoke about the need to review such a policy. Currently, American duties of 15% apply to Irish whiskey.

On September 8, a document was published on the White House website, according to which, from September 29, the United States will impose a ban on the import of a number of alcoholic beverages from Canada. The decision is related to Washington's accusations of discriminatory measures by Ottawa against American alcoholic beverages. The text says that Canada restricts the purchase, distribution and sale of alcohol from the United States, while not applying similar measures to goods from other countries.
