The expert named the reasons for the severance of Armenia's ties with the Diaspora

Yerevan is weakening ties with the Armenian Diaspora abroad, because its representatives are mostly opposed to the country's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. This was stated by political analyst Tigran Kocharyan in an interview with "Izvestia".

"Pashinyan does not control the diaspora, does not have much influence there, therefore he is trying to cut it off from internal Armenian affairs. For this, he abandons the concept of Armenia as a global national home, a safe haven for every Armenian," he stressed.

In the future, it may be possible to introduce the provision of Armenian citizenship upon birth in the country, the expert admitted. In this case, Azerbaijanis who lived in the republic during the Soviet era will also have the right to obtain a passport. According to the expert, this is exactly what the tandem of Azerbaijan and Turkey is trying to achieve.

Earlier, the Armenian authorities announced their intention to tighten the rules for granting citizenship of the country. Representatives of the diaspora will no longer be able to apply for a passport remotely: to obtain a document, they will have to move and live in the country for at least six months. In addition, in July, the residency qualification was introduced for the participation of ethnic Armenians in elections in the republic.
