Lukashenko announces visit of Trump's best friend to Minsk

US President Donald Trump's best friend is due to arrive in Belarus in the near future, while Minsk officially expresses its readiness for broad cooperation and normalization of relations with Washington. About this on September 11th President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said.

"I said frankly that I am a Trumpist, I supported Trump. I see his mistakes. I am talking about this directly to his best friend, who should come to us. <...> We are ready for both a small and a big deal," he was quoted as saying by the Belarusian news agency BelTA.

Lukashenko stressed that Belarus remains fully open to dialogue, but in order to organize his personal meeting with Trump, it is necessary to understand the specific practical content of these negotiations. According to him, Minsk does not intend to participate in international formats, including the Gas Peace Council, solely as a decoration, and expects American partners to be ready for a serious and mutually beneficial discussion of the accumulated issues.

The Belarusian leader highlighted the discussion of the full-fledged reopening of the embassies of the two countries, as well as cooperation in the field of nuclear materials, as promising topics for expanding bilateral cooperation.

In addition, the president recalled that the United States has already lifted sanctions against a number of Belarusian enterprises and expresses its readiness to move further in this direction, in connection with which Minsk suggests that the American side consider the possibility of resuming purchases of potash fertilizers.

The pause in the dialogue between the parties lasts almost six months.

On March 19, Lukashenko pardoned 250 prisoners. According to the Reuters news agency, the release was part of a large-scale deal brokered by the United States. Of the 250 people, 235 were released inside the country, and 15 were sent to Lithuania.
