The Kremlin did not consider the idea of a complete break in relations with Germany

The possibility of a complete termination of diplomatic relations between Russia and Germany was not considered. This was announced on September 8 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

"So far, it doesn't seem to have occurred to anyone. I repeat once again, we have never been in favor of curtailing relations [with Germany]," he said at a briefing, commenting on the closure of the Consulate General of Germany in St. Petersburg.

The press secretary of the Russian president added that he did not undertake to assess "how far the German leadership could go" against the background of the deterioration of bilateral relations.

The day before, Russia withdrew its consent to the functioning of the German Consulate General in St. Petersburg. The diplomatic mission must cease operations no later than September 18, and all employees of the Consulate General must leave Russia by the same date.
