- Thousands of believers took part in a religious procession in Moscow with Patriarch Kirill
Thousands of believers gathered on Prechistenskaya and Kremlevskaya embankments before the start of the Moscow-wide procession led by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. The march on September 6 is timed to coincide with the day of the celebration of the Cathedral of Moscow Saints, the Izvestia correspondent reports.
The procession started from the Cathedral of Christ the Savior and will go to the Novodevichy Monastery. The route runs through the embankments of the Moskva River and Khamovnicheskiy Val. Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia will lead the procession.
During the procession, the faithful carried shrines, headed by the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God, one of the main shrines of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC), the relics of St. Grand Duke Dimitri Donskoy and the icon of All Saints of Moscow. After the end of the procession, the faithful will be able to worship the shrines at the Novodevichy Monastery.
"This is an important event for the whole of Russia, the finding of the relics of Dmitry Donskoy, it is generally a great miracle, and Russians, Chechens, Tatars, and Dagestanis are defending the Motherland. They have different traditions, but the Fatherland is one," said Vitaliy Drozdov, a member of the Association of Veterans of the Special Military Operation (SVO).
The relics of Prince Dmitry Donskoy were rediscovered in July 2026 in the Archangel Cathedral of the Kremlin. It will be impossible to venerate them during the procession due to the scale of the event, however, after the procession ends, the shrine will be put up for the worship of believers in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.
"We couldn't help but come with the family. In general, this whole process is very exciting, it is very joyful to be here. You know, the Lord has somehow managed everything here in this procession, and the relics of Dmitry Donskoy - God grant that our army be under his protection," said Tatiana, a parishioner.
On the morning of the same day, Patriarch Kirill met the relics of Prince Dmitry Donskoy in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. Before the start of the prayer procession on the day of the commemoration of the Cathedral of Moscow Saints, the primate of the Russian Orthodox Church celebrated the liturgy. After that, the ark with a fragment of the relics of Grand Duke Dmitry Donskoy was taken to the Main Temple of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in Patriot Park.
